Stan PerfeX – Longneck Thumb Release (Blackout)

The Stan PerfeX Longneck Release (Blackout) is a totally blacked out thumb-button release that’s got all the crispness, adjustability and precision you’d expect from Stan. It’s a great choice for bowhunters and/or target archers.

Why Stan?

In 2017, I traveled west from Michigan to Montana to meet up with my buddy Brandon, a Montana native and serious archer, for my first archery elk hunt. We did a little shooting prior to heading to our hunting location, and I noticed Brandon shooting a thumb-style release. At the time, I shot a Scott Mongoose, a single caliper release with a wrist strap. I asked Brandon if I could try his release, a Stan Shootoff. I had never used a thumb-style release, so Brandon instructed me on the proper operation. After launching my third arrow, I knew I would be switching releases as soon as the season ended. I found a much more natural anchor point using a thumb-style release. When combined with the light and crisp trigger on the Shootoff, I pulled through the shot for a more consistent surprise release. Based on that experience, I decided to pickup a Stan the follow spring.

I ended up going with Stan’s Perfex Longneck Thumb Release with the “Blackout” finish. The PerfeX offers a highly customizable fit. The PerfeX comes with interchangeable 3 & 4 finger extensions (with adjustable finger sweep), 3 different trigger post lengths, and two different thumb barrel sizes. Additionally, the PerfeX is a release aid platform that offers an exact match between handles regardless of the mechanism inside. You can buy them with a thumb activated mechanism inside, or with a resistance activated mechanism. The fit and feel of the release handle is identical between the thumb and resistance models and offers the exact same fit, feel, and most importantly, point of impact.

Stan claims their mechanism offers the fastest lock time in the industry and minimizes the possibility of string interference. Stan expanded the traditional range of trigger tension adjustability from ridiculously light to absurdly heavy and everything in between. I found the factory setting on my PerfeX to be scary light. The PerfeX can be set for zero trigger travel. The PerfeX comes in both long and short neck versions in sizes ranging from small to X-Large.

The short neck models increase your draw length by a little over a quarter of an inch and are ideal for those looking to maximize the speed they get out of their rig. For archers with larger hands, the long neck model ensures the hook mechanism fully clears an archer’s fingers. A cool and notable difference between the short and long neck versions is the spring-loaded string keeper on the long neck version. For those who like to leave their release clipped to their d-loops, this is your ticket! For those of you looking to hunt with a PerfeX, all models come with a lanyard boss on the bottom of the release and the long neck has a “Blackout” finish option to cut unwanted glare while pursuing your favorite game.

The release also Includes:
• Interchangeable 3 & 4 finger extensions (assembled as a 4 finger)
• 3 trigger post lengths – 7/8″, 1″, 1-1/8″ (assembled with 1″ post)
• 1 Large and 1 small knob (assembled with small knob)
• Trainer Lock pin (Completely locks out the trigger mechanism)

I have been shooting this release for over a year now, and I am very happy with the consistency I achieve using the Stan Perfex.
